WPHL sports anchor suspended after argument

WPHL weekday sports anchor Geraud Moncure was recently suspended by the station after a screaming match with executive producer Rachel Sparrow, station sources said.

The argument was over Moncure's coverage of Washington Wizard star Michael Jordan's last game vs. the Sixers on April 16.

According to a station source, Moncure returned from the game with only a sound bite from spectator Bill Cosby. Moncure and Sparrow got into a heated discussion and evidently Moncure's comments to Sparrow were harsh enough to earn a suspension.

Moncure and Sparrow could not be reached for comment. News director Chuck Carter said "no comment."

Moncure, 36, who initially was to be hired as the weekend sports anchor, was thrust into the weekday slot Oct. 31 when management could not come to terms with former sports director Mike Missanelli.

On the move?

Missanelli and Joe Conklin have been at WMMR 93.3-FM for two weeks and there is already speculation about what will happen to them next.

There is speculation that the two will join fellow Greater Philadelphia Radio Group station WPEN 950-AM to do a morning sports talk show.E

"That is completely false,"EWPEN 950-AM general manager Rick Feinblatt said. "We are happy to have Missanelli and Conklin at WMMR."

Last year, there was talk that WPEN 950-AM, which is in the second of a three-year deal with the Phillies, would become an ESPN radio affiliate, but ESPN ended up on 920-AM.

Splitting hairs

A former hairstylist on "The Best Damn Sports Show Period" has filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against co-host John Salley. Why would Salley, who is bald, need a hairstylist?

Hard knocks for 'Hard Knocks'

HBO announced it will not do a third season of "Hard Knocks," a reality show that focused on one NFL team's training camp. Maybe the real reason is because of the "Hard Knocks" jinx.

The first season was about the Baltimore Ravens and last season was about the Dallas Cowboys. Both teams followed their "Hard Knocks" exposure with terrible years.
