As we are in "Triple Crown" season, fittingly it's a three-way horse race at 11 p.m. between WPVI and WCAU for first place, with KYW nipping at their tails.  With 21 of 28 days of sweeps in the books, WPVI leads WCAU by less than a rating point. WPVI with Jim Gardner has a 10.94 rating and WCAU with Renee Chenault Fattah and Tim Lake has a 10.35 rating.  KYW with Larry Mendte and Alycia Lane is close behind with a 9.16 rating.  Last year at this time, KYW had a 5.72 rating.  WPVI is down a point from last year and WCAU has basically remained the same. Each local rating point equals 28,743 households.

The other big news emerging from sweeps is that "Dr. Phil" has been a huge difference for KYW at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.  KYW was in third place in those time slots last year and is now in second place over WCAU.  And it's "Seacrest Out" permanently, as "On Air with Ryan Seacrest" was canceled.

For those upset over the endings of "Friends" and "Frasier," reruns of "Friends" airs weeknights at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. on WPHL and "Frasier" airs weeknights at midnight on WTXF.

With Maria LaRosa joining the KYW weather staff in June, Tom LaMaine becomes the odd man out.  LaRosa will take over weekend evenings, which had been LaMaine's domain since Chris Dunn left the station last year.  Kathy Orr will continue as the weeknight meteorologist, Paul Deanno will do weekday mornings, and Carol Erickson will do weekend mornings.  LaMaine will become a fill-in.

As the networks announced their fall schedules last week, there was good news and bad news for shows pertaining to Philadelphia.  The good news is that UPN renewed "Eve," starring Philadelphia's Eve, the Philadelphia-set "Cold Case" starring Temple graduate Kathryn Morris was renewed by CBS, and the Philadelphia-set "American Dreams" was renewed by NBC.

The bad news is that CBS canceled "Hack," which was set and filmed here and WB ended "The Jamie Kennedy Experiment" starring Upper Darby's Kennedy.

Also worth noting, Upper Darby's Tina Fey is having a great spring with the success of her movie "Mean Girls" and the success of her own group of "mean girls" on "Saturday Night Live" - herself, Rachel Dratch, Maya Rudolph, and Amy Poehler.

For those who caught the awesome "Divas Live" on VH1 last month, starring Patti LaBelle, check out the PBS special "70's Soul" hosted by LaBelle and featuring many Philly International favorites on WHYY June 6.
