The disappearance of Lisa Thomas-Laury from the WPVI 5 p.m. newscast has left many viewers wondering if she is following former longtime partner Marc Howard out the door.  According to a newsroom source, the reason that Thomas-Laury has been missing is due to health problems.  A station spokesperson said she wasn't feeling well and had negative reaction to a medication.  The once model of stability, the 5 p.m. newscast has suddenly turned into Grand Central Station.  The team of Marc Howard, Lisa Thomas Laury, Scott Palmer and Dave Roberts worked together for over 20 years, until Howard left in August to join KYW.   Due to Thomas-Laury's absence, many times 5 p.m. has looked like 5 a.m., as morning anchors Rick Williams and Monica Malpass have manned the anchor desk. Though, Malpass, Williams, and weekend anchor Rob Jennings have done that slot, a station source says that WPVI might look to the outside for Howard's replacement.

Hurricane Season

With the news that Glenn "Hurricane" Schwartz will take over for John Bolaris as WCAU's weekday weather anchor, that leaves a vacancy on the weekend.  Maybe Colette Kennedy, who filled in for Kathy Orr during her maternity leave will get the job.  Let's hope Craig Weber doesn't send a tape.

The first week of "sweeps" is complete.  Expect WCAU to win for the third straight November.  NBC and CBS boast 19 of the top 20 shows.  This will help their local affiliates WCAU and KYW, respectively.  WPVI is at a disadvantage because of its terrible network schedule and because "Monday Night Football" pushes its newscast back to midnight.

At press time it was unknown is Gwen Gioia, 31, from Chester Springs advanced in "The Bachelor" on ABC, but before last night's show, she was the 1-2 favorite to win according to Las Vegas odds-makers. The executive health recruiter said she is enjoying her new fame and having "Bachelor" parties with friends each Wednesday night.
