| CHANNEL SURFING Everyone wins in Howard defection One winner in this scenario could be Wally Kennedy, who has only had the weekly "Sunday Live" since "Philly After Midnight" was canceled last year. By LAURA NACHMAN The fall-out continues over the
Marc Howard defection to Channel 3.
A source at Channel 6 said the newsroom is still stunned over the
news, but the overall feeling is that everybody wins as Howard, 65, gets
a big raise, while WPVI gets younger in a hurry.
One winner in this scenario could be Wally Kennedy, who has only had
the weekly "Sunday Live" since "Philly After
Midnight" was canceled last year.
Kennedy subbed for Howard on "Inside Story" last week and
is the front-runner for the higher profile show. Observant viewers will
notice that WPVI has already started running a promo for the 5 p.m. news
with only Lisa Thomas-Laury. According to a station spokesperson, Monica
Malpass, Rick Williams, Anita Brikman and Rob Jennings will rotate in
Howard's spot for now.
Meanwhile at Channel 3, staffers are awaiting Larry Kane's return
from vacation on Monday. An insider there says the feeling at the
station is that Kane won't stick around when Howard begins in January.
IT'S YOUR LONG DISTANCE CALL
CN8 and Bucks County resident Lynn Doyle worked the Labor Day weekend
as a substitute host on Geraldo Rivera's show on Fox News Channel
Saturday and Sunday.
Doyle's regular show, "It's Your Call," will devote a week
of shows to the first anniversary of "9-11" beginning Monday.
On Sept. 11, there will be a two-hour special with interviews with four
Bucks County women - Fiona Havlish, Tara Bane, Grace Godshalk, and Judy
Reiss - who lost family members in the World Trade Center attacks.
PAGING BILLY BOB AND ANGELINA
Philly's Banyan Productions is looking for couples engaged to be
married to participate in its new reality series "48 Hour
Wedding," which will air on PAX TV this fall. The show will give a
couple $10,000 to plan their nuptials within 48-hours. Call 215-928-1414
for further details. Maybe a spin-off could be "48 Hour
Divorce."
CUTTING ROOM FLOOR
It's not a done deal, but it's likely that WPHL reporter Brad Sattin
and photographer Matt Maiorano are leaving the station to open their own
production company called "TV News Solutions," which will
provide stories for Tribune stations around the country.
Doylestown's Dr. Lori Verderame, also known as "Dr. Lori,"
an art historian and antiques appraiser will discuss movie collectibles
on WCAU's "10," Sept. 18 at 10 a.m.
Here are some of the new shows that will air on Channel 48 this fall:
"Family Feud" with Richard Karn, "Carol Burnett and
Friends" and "Newsradio."
Laura Nachman can be heard on WBCB 1490-AM Monday and Friday at
