Surfing by Laura Nachman Bucks County Courier Times April 27, 2004 May sweeps begins Thursday. At 11 p.m., WPVI, with Jim Gardner, Gary Papa, and Cecily Tynan should win despite a terrible prime time lineup from ABC. KYW with Larry Mendte, Alycia Lane, Beasley Reece, and Kathy Orr will try to build on the momentum it gained in February, with help from the number one rated network CBS. WCAU with Renee Chenault Fattah, Tim Lake, Glenn "Hurricane Schwartz," and Vai Sikahema hopes to have a good book with the series finales of NBC shows "Friends" and "Frasier." At 10 p.m., WTXF should do well thanks to "American Idol" on Fox. News anchor Dawn Stensland, who had a baby on April 1, will return for sweeps. WPHL, which is now a half hour, will be going into sweeps without a sports anchor. Welcome back to WCAU weekday morning anchor Steve Levy who returned to the air on April 22, after getting the shingles. "Sex and the City" fans were treated to inside info about their favorite show from show writers and producers Julie Rottenberg and Elisa Zuritsky, who spoke before over 250-women at a luncheon at the Gershman Y last Wednesday in Center City. The popular HBO comedy ended its run in February, but the writing duo already has another gig lined up - they will be creating another sitcom for the network. There is no title or air-date yet for the new series. Lifelong friends Zuritsky and Rottenberg are graduates of Germantown Friends. They both live in New York City. It appears that WPVI's "Sunday Live" hosted by Wally Kennedy is living on borrowed time, as ABC has announced that "Good Morning America" will be expanding to the weekend. Hopefully, WPVI will at least keep "Inside Story." Both "Sunday Live" and "Inside Story" keep up with the local issues affecting Philadelphia. "Good Day Philadelphia's" Kerri Lee Halkett subbed for Dawn Stensland on the "Ten O'clock News" on WTXF last week. Many viewers believe the new format, which includes something called "Big Picture" weather and "Nine Things You Need to Know" is trying to emulate WPVI's "Action News." Even with the quicker pace, news anchor Dave Huddleston needs to slow down. He constantly "steps" on his co-anchors when it is his turn to read a story. There will be one less "P" at WPHT 1210-AM. "Philadelphia Daily News" reporter Ronnie Polaneczky's Sunday afternoon show is over after only two shows. She wrote in an email, "I decided the show was a poor fit for me, and could just tell it wasn't going to work, long-term, so decided to nip things in the bud. WPHT program director Grace Blazer said she probably will have a replacement in a couple of weeks. More talent is being announced for the upcoming talent show on UPN 57 "Gimme The Mike." Bethany Watson, Miss Philadelphia 2002, will be a co-host with Paul Deanno and Chris McCoy and Tiffany Hill of B-101 will be two of the judges. The show premieres June 20. I Heart Dylan McKay! I discovered that FX is airing "Beverly Hills 90210" reruns from 10 a.m. - noon on Sundays. Yay! |
