Former WTXF news anchor Rich Noonan isn’t laughing about a recent blurb about him in the recent issue of “Philadelphia” magazine.  In its “Cracked Bell Awards” the magazine printed a photo, which depicts Noonan in hip-hop attire with a supposed cover letter he sent to stations using rap slang.

“The article in “Philadelphia” magazine is absolutely false and outrageous.  My attorneys “Sprague and Sprague” are reviewing it now,” Noonan said in his only comment about the article.

Noonan filed a complaint this summer against WTXF, charging racial discrimination after he was fired last year and replaced by an African-American anchor.  Richard Sprague, who successfully represented Allen Iverson last summer, is Noonan’s lawyer.

“Oy vay.  Of course it’s outrageous.  It’s a satire of events that have been in the news over the past year.  No reasonable reader could look at that and understand it as true and we meant it that way.”  Complaining about this is like

Contrary to what was reported last week, “The Sharon Osbourne Show” is scheduled to air on WPHL in the fall, not WCAU.  Does anyone else believe that the Osbournes “jumped the shark” with the Pepsi Twist commercial?

KYW debuted its new set Monday.  WPHL also unveiled new station colors recently, however someone forgot to tell the station’s web master, as the old purple and black colors are on www.wb17.com.

Observant viewers probably have noticed that KYW started running weather cut-ins before the “Dr. Phil” show at 3 p.m.  No surprise there, since “Dr. Phil” is the highest rated show of the day for the station.  As for its 4 p.m. block, “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” has been cleared in over 60% of the markets for the fall.  No word on “Pyramid” with Donny Osmond yet.

“Dead (Weather) Man Walking”

According to a station source, recently demoted weekend evening weather anchor Chris Dunn is planning to work through the end of his contract then leave KYW.  Dunn moved across the country from Utah last year to become the number one weather anchor, but was replaced last month with Kathy Orr.

WTXF’s Janet Zappala did a great job of skiing while reporting from Blue Mountain on “Good Day Philadelphia” recently.  CN8’s Lynn Doyle will team up with John McEnroe for a celebrity/charity tennis tournament at Sovereign Bank Arena March 3rd.  They’ll play Boris Becker and a partner to be named later.

It’s nice to hear the voice of disc jockey Brian Murphy in Philadelphia again.  The former Star 104.5 DJ now does mid-days on WMWX 95.7-FM.
