Surfing by Laura Nachman Bucks County Courier Times January 15, 2004 WBEB 101-FM and WSNI 104.5-FM got what they wanted for Christmas, as both stations benefited from their six-weeks of holiday music in the latest Arbitron ratings. In the fall book for listeners ages 12 and above, B-101 came in first place with a 7.4 rating (up from a 5.0 rating in the summer). WSNI came in seventh place with a 4.0 rating (up from a 2.7 rating in the summer). Each rating point equals one percent of the approximate four million listeners in the Philadelphia market. With both stations doing well in the ratings, don't be surprised if they start holiday music after Halloween next year. Eagles fever helped WYSP 94.1-FM and sports radio WIP 610-AM. WYSP placed sixth overall with a 4.3 rating and WIP jumped from a 2.5 rating in the summer to a 3.9 rating in the fall for eighth place. Here is the top 20: 1. WBEB 101.1-FM - 7.4 2. KYW 1060-AM - 7. 3. WDAS 105.3-FM 4. WUSL 99-FM - 6.0 5. WIOQ 102.1-FM 4.5 6. WYSP 94.1-FM - 4.3 7. WSNI 104.5-FM - 4.0 8. WIP 610-AM - 3.9 9. WPHI 103.1-FM - 3.7 10. WOGL 98.1-FM - 3.6 11. WLDW 96.5-FM - 1.3 20. WPST 97.5-FM - 1.1 A few stations have made programming changes due to the ratings. It was a bad week for "Hot Hits 98" alumni as Mix 95.7-FM released morning man Glen Kalina and WOGL 98.1-FM moved Christy Springfield to weekends from the mid-day slot Ironically, a few weeks ago, Springfield won an Achievement in Radio award for best mid-day host. And of course a few weeks ago, WLDW 96.5-FM changed its format from hits of the 80's to R & B. Now there is word that it may have to change its name already, as Clear Channel is threatening legal action over the name "Wild," which Clear Channel uses in other markets. WLDW is run by Beasley Broadcasting, which also owns WXTU. "The Wendy Williams Experience" debuted this week on Power 99-FM. It will air weekdays from 3-7 p.m. Williams was a DJ for Power 99 a few years ago, went to New York, made it big, and is now the star of her own syndicated show. She also pops up on VH1. |
