From the sounds of police scanners and pagers to white water rapids and wildlife, Rich Scott has made the jump from WPHL news director to the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee as the co-proprietor of a cabin rental business, Copper Hill Country Cabins (www.copperhillcabins.com) in Copper Hill, Tennessee, a few miles north of the Georgia border.  After leaving his position as news director at WPHL in March, Scott moved from Philadelphia to the small town in Tennessee (population:  501) where he and wife Patricia live in a log home and rent out two-to-three bedroom cabins to vacationers that are surrounded by mountains, lakes, and whitewater rafting rivers.  The 30-year veteran of the news business (WIP-AM, KYW-3, NJN), whose first job was a paperboy for the “Courier Times,” said “People always told me there was life outside of TV and the news business.  Now is my chance to find out if that’s true.  My blood pressure is down 40 points and I’ve lost 25 pounds since leaving WPHL.  I miss the people I worked with daily, but don’t miss the stress of the job one little bit.” The Neshaminy High and WBCB-AM alum  added, “Don’t get me wrong.  I’m not giving up on TV.  Atlanta, Chattanooga, Knoxville and Charlotte are all within driving distance.   I'm looking for some freelance opportunities right now, but am still hoping to avoid a return to fulltime news management.  Chances are I'll live longer as a result!”

WPVI weekend weather anchor Sally Ann Mosey, or “SAM” as Rob Jennings calls her, is expecting her third child in September to join her two sons.

WPHL weekday news anchor Toni Yates is expecting a baby in December.  Yates married her fiancé of over a year, firefighter Chuck Harvey on May 25.  She has two girls from her first marriage to CN8 news anchor Arthur Fennell, Austyn 7, and Alexis, 6.

WPVI host Wally Kennedy subbed for Jeff Katz on WPHT-AM last week.  Kennedy worked at 1210 from 1981-1984 before joining Channel 6 where Kennedy had been a full time host until last August when “Philly After Midnight” was canceled.  Kennedy hosts “Sunday Live” at 8 a.m. as well as some special events for the station.  Coincidentally, Katz is going through a similar situation as his hours were cut significantly when Michael Smerconish returned to WPHT.

See if some of our local television stars know their stuff as the local chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) and the Philadelphia Ad Club will compete in “The Great TV Trivia Showdown” at Dave and Buster’s on Wednesday, June 19 at 6:30 p.m.  Proceeds will benefit the Siani Lee Foundation and the Ad Club Scholarship Fund.  Contestants include WTXF’s Kerri Lee Halkett, WCAU’s Karen Hepp, KYW’s Beasley Reece, and WPHL’s Toni Yates.  Comcast SportsNet’s Michael Barkann will be the host.
