Surfing by Laura Nachman Bucks County Courier Times November 25, 2003 With 2/3's of the November sweeps complete, WPVI holds a slight lead over WCAU at 11 p.m. Monday through Friday with an 11.6 rating/19 share compared to an 11.3 rating/18 share for WCAU. KYW has an 8.2 rating/13 share at 11. At 10 p.m., WTXF leads with a 4.2 rating/6 share and WPHL has a 1.8 rating/2 share ("Help, I've fallen and I can't get up!) Also of note, at 4 p.m."Oprah" is having an outstanding November for WPVI with a 9.6 rating/21 share. That is more than the combined ratings of the newscasts on WCAU and KYW. As for some of the new syndicated shows, "Living it Up with Ali & Jack" is killing KYW with a 1.1 rating/3 share at 9 a.m. Not many viewers are starting over for "Starting Over" on WCAU. WCAU's "Ellen" is doing better than KYW's "Pyramid" and "Inside Edition," but "Ellen" basically has the same ratings as "Montel Williams" did for Channel 10 at 3 p.m. last year. "Dr. Phil" is the syndicated success story of the season. It is earning a 5.0 rating/9 share for KYW at 5 p.m., right on the heels of the 5 p.m. news on WCAU, which has a 5.2 rating/10 share. However, the WPVI news at 5 leads with an 11.4 rating/21 share. WPVI's Rob Jennings, who many feel will end up with the 5 p.m. co-anchor job, was inducted into the Philadelphia Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame Friday night. As expected, former WPHL reporter Tina Kim joined WTXF. She'll be one of the news reporters for "Good Day Philadelphia" from 7 - 9 a.m. Everybody Loves Double Coupons Acme snagged "Everybody Loves Raymond's" Patricia Heaton for its latest batch of commercials. Remember the old Acme commercials with Alan Hamel (Mr. Suzanne Somers?) Keeping Score Many radio listeners have been changing their "set" buttons this week. WPTP 96.5-FM changed its format from hits of the 80's and today to hip-hop and R & B, and WSNI and B-101 are full-time holiday music stations. Plus there will be less "Boogie Nights" on WMWX 95.7-FM. The dance music program has been cut from every night to Friday-Sunday. Rebecca S. Campbell is the new president and general manager of WPVI, replacing Dave Davis who left for the same position at WABC in New York. According to a newsroom source, Campbell, who served as the vice president of programming at the station since 1997, received a standing ovation when her promotion was announced. Campbell's husband, John, is the director of photography for WTXF. A station spokesperson confirmed that WCAU medical reporter Cherie Bank is on medical leave due to rotator cuff surgery |
